The first question that you will likely have is how did we come up with this price?

A mare has an average gestation of 11 months or 340 days. For 7 months of this time they can be fed a normal diet of grass. Four months before foaling they need additional supplements added to their diet as well as increased rate of feed. Finally post foaling for 4 months they need substantially more high quality feed and supplements to feed both themselves as well as the foal.

In addition to this there are extra costs in running a mare such as the stallion service fee, feet trims, worming, as well as foaling and breeding costs.

The below table shows these costs excluding GST.

Feed Months Days Quantity per day Price/KG Total feed cost
7 months early gestation 7 217 8 0.2 $347.20

The additional large costs include the stallion service and costs for foaling the mare.

You may find foals available for cheaper but we are aiming for a good quality healthy foal without cutting corners. This service is aimed at providing a weaned foal to you without any effort at a fixed price.
